Linda May Han Oh Kansas City Concert reviews
It was a bit stupid and expensive
For $144, I kind of expected a bit better on the comedy side, like COMEDY. The comparison wasn't intended but it was there for people who pay for comedy down here. Maybe a sketch or two rather than the videos. The tribute song to Robin Williams was kind of ironic since this was the venue that he missed with the heart attack and then came back a year later and killed, with everyone leaving the building weeping and gasping for air. Not on this night, buddies.
Hard Rock Live is still a terrible venue for watching comedy events. It's built like a hockey rink, not an amphitheater. Steve Martin's one great story about meeting Russell Brand was that he said, going out of a party: "I was just going out and you're just coming in" and Brand quipped: "It's a metaphor." Seats on the risers point to center floor, not the stage. Floor seats outside of the first two sections are far enough away that you're watching the TV screens for $144. Spend the money, CASINO, to put riser seats on the floor so people can SEE.
A combination of reminiscences, riffs on Steve Martin's art collection, and videos of past glories punctuated by some nice bluegrass music was really the highlight of the evening. I wish I had paid to see Brand. For $60, I could have said it was fun to sit in on Steve and Linda May Han Oh riffing off the audience (you can substitute the "f"s for "p"s and it works both ways).
